In the third and last Formula BMW race in the VRL Summer Trophy, Simracing For Holland driver Robin Verdegaal finally found his speed. Starting both races from pole position, Verdegaal kept\u00a0things\u00a0interesting by\u00a0ruining both starts. In race 1 Ricardo Michalewski took\u00a0over\u00a0the\u00a0lead for lap 1, but lost it\u00a0in the second\u00a0lap to see Verdegaal drive away to the finish. Two laps and three spins later, gentlemen’s cup contender Erwin Zwart had to retire\u00a0his car after a\u00a0high\u00a0speed incident causing\u00a0heavy damage to\u00a0the second SFH car. The fastest lap in\u00a0the\u00a0race put Verdegaal on poleposition for race 2.<\/p>\n

In race 2 Ricardo Michalewski, Tim Vanhee and Martin de Graaf\u00a0beat Robin at\u00a0the starting lights, but before the end of the\u00a0lap he got\u00a0back\u00a0into second\u00a0position. From\u00a0that\u00a0point\u00a0on Verdegaal was his\u00a0own worst enemy, struggling\u00a0to\u00a0keep\u00a0the car\u00a0on the tarmac and\u00a0matching his own clean pace from\u00a0race 1. By the time he got back on Michalewski’s tail, too many chicane cuts\u00a0had\u00a0been\u00a0reported by\u00a0the track\u00a0officials,\u00a0and after\u00a0the race Verdegaal earned a qualifying\u00a0penalty\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0next race at Zolder. All that time Erwin Zwart’s car had been running stationery in the pitbox, while the SFH crew struggled\u00a0to find\u00a0out what was wrong with\u00a0it. In the end Zwart\u00a0never made it\u00a0to\u00a0the track and ‘No comment’ was all he wanted to say about the San Marino weekend. In the last stages of race 2 Verdegaal secured the\u00a0win with a clean\u00a0pass\u00a0in the\u00a0last\u00a0chicane.<\/p>\n

Verdegaal took over the championship lead from Martin de Graaf. Being asked if his new gear had anything to do with his renewed pace Verdegaal denied so, stating that ‘Material\u00a0always plays\u00a0a\u00a0part, but\u00a0finding back my speed was long overdue anyway<\/em>‘. And about\u00a0the\u00a0new Simracing For Holland BMW 320 E21 prepared for the next set of Summer Trophy races: ‘I’m looking forward to Zolder.\u00a0SFH have done a great\u00a0job\u00a0on\u00a0the 320 and I’m really\u00a0having\u00a0fun behind the wheel<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
