Dennis Douna wins the RUF C-spec cup
Becoming the second Simracing for Holland driver to win an iRacing official championship, Dennis Douna has won the iRacing RUF C-spec championship by beating no less than 2500 iRacing competitors. After a stunning season, where the competition was always right there, Douna withstood the pressure, showing a consistently high performance all season long.
Summit Point
With good results at Summit Point, the championship was virtually decided one week ahead, but after an exciting fight at Road America with Joel Hafner, who came fourth in the championship, Douna secured the championship by finishing the last race of the season in second position. That the championship did not come easy is underlined by the titanic battles in every single race.
Daytona
To demonstrate the intensity of these fights, Douna’s thrilling win at Daytona is worth mentioning. He beat runner-up Daniel Buck by the smallest margin of only 0.032 seconds. Also the win at Watkins Glen was special, with Douna defending from Hafner all race long. And winning was not the only way to get a sense of satisfaction in this car, as Douna told the car was “an absolute delight to drive”, making it the ideal way for him to relax from the stressful study activities on his Master’s thesis.
Oran Park / Lime Rock Park
Inevitably there were some disappointments as well during the season, such as an engine blow-up at Oran Park and a heavy crash at Lime Rock Park, but these did not take Douna down from getting closer to the championship every week. Scoring most points of the pack in no less than 5 of the 12 races, it was not only consistency but also a good pace that helped to conserve the championship.
On raw racing speed every race was a toss-up between the four fastest drivers of the championship. This great group of direct championship competitors did not only give an extra edge to the value of the championship, but also guaranteed entertaining races all season long. And while close racing is often the main ingredient for incidents and lots of drama, the great respect between the front running drivers demonstrated that close racing is also possible without crashes.
It is always good to see the Simracing For Holland livery on the top spot, let’s see what the next season will bring.
